Parks and Recreation
Upstill Park is Gilbert’s largest park and features soccer fields, a trail for walking and bicycling, and a marsh. Lion’s Park is home to tennis courts, a basketball hoop, a children’s playground, and a picnic area. Just east of Gilbert lies the Skunk River Greenbelt, perfect for swimming, walking, bicycling, canoeing, and horseback riding.

Living
Gilbert’s bucolic landscape is dotted with large farmsteads and ranch houses, but the town also includes several residential neighborhoods. Much of the residential real estate in Gilbert consists of lovely, old-time houses with average prices of approximately $190K. For those relocating to Gilbert who wish to live in a newer subdivision, the south side of town is home to a large residential area that features houses built within the last ten years. Schools, Health, Transportation
Gilbert’s children are well served by the high quality public education offered by the Gilbert Community School District. Graduates’ higher education needs can be met at the nearby prestigious Iowa State University. There also are a number of exceptional medical centers in the area, including the Iowa Heart Center and the 220-bed Mary Greeley Medical Center, both just four miles away in nearby Ames. Story County Hospital in Nevada, Iowa is a 15-minute drive from Gilbert.
